If you looked at the sun without glasses yesterday, you really shouldn’t have. That’s because even a brief unprotected stare into an eclipse can cause irreversible eye damage, says the Adler Planetarium.
Then again, some people can’t be helped. We all knew it was going to happen, but inevitably, some people opted to fry their corneas by raw-dogging eye-first directly into the sun’s beams. In fact, one kid even looked at the whole thing through a telescope.

In this clip, a kid can be seen absentmindedly adjusting a telescope. Playing out in a “moments before disaster” style, he moves the telescope closer and closer to his eyes until the beam eventually knicks him, causing him to cover the side of his face in pain.
There’s no telling what damage this kid did to his eyes as a result. While he only did it for a second, prolonged exposure to the sun through a telescope can literally cook your eyeballs, as this video demonstrates.
Hey, the boy’s still young. Hopefully his eyes will be able to recover and he’ll be back to staring at the sun again soon — though the odds aren’t exactly in his favor.
